HEADWIND

Headwind, HEADWIND,  is a young refugee girl who was born in a refugee camp in Nepal after her parents were exiled from Bhutan in the early ninetees of the past century. She grew up in the camp never having touched Bhutanese ground. In 2008 Laxmi and her family were resettled to the Netherlands giving them a new chance in life. Lasmi’x low caste boyfriend however was resettled to the United States and so their strong love is tested to the limits. Laxmi’s new life is complicated and the relationship with her family deteriorates as she becomes more and more influenced by the modern western society which is so different from what she was used to in Nepal.

Alice Anna Verheij (50) is a writer, filmmaker and photographer who is dedicating her work to human rights advocacy and unveiling unknown human rights situations. Her prime area of interest is South Asia. Her debuting novel was a Dutch language thriller about the fight against women trafficking from Nepal, through the Gulf States to Europe. Currently she is working on her next Dutch language novel and the sequel to her first published book. In the end of 2012 she will release her documentary Headwind, the forgotten exiles from Bhutan which she made in 2010 – 2012 together with her companion Eveline van de Putte. They have also recently published the photobook UNFORGOTTEN that can be ordered here and there photos are being exhibited in a number locations in the Netherlands.

First man on the moon Neil Armstrong dead at 82

0US astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, died at the age of 82 on Saturday after suffering complications from heart surgery.President Barack Obama said Armstrong “delivered a moment of human achievement that will be never be forgotten” and called him “one of the greatest American heroes of all time”.

Neil Alden Armstrong (August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012) was an American astronauttest pilotaerospace engineer, university professor andUnited States Naval Aviator. He was the first human to walk on the Moon. Before becoming an astronaut, Armstrong was a United States Navy officer and served in the Korean War. After the war, he served as a test pilot at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics High-Speed Flight Station, now known as the Dryden Flight Research Center, where he logged over 900 flights. He graduated from Purdue University and completedgraduate studies at the University of Southern California.

A participant in the U.S. Air Force‘s Man In Space Soonest and X-20 Dyna-Soar human spaceflight programs, Armstrong joined the NASA Astronaut Corps in 1962. His first spaceflight was the NASA Gemini 8 mission in 1966, for which he was the command pilot, becoming one of the first U.S. civilians in space. On this mission, he performed the first manned docking of two spacecraft with pilot David Scott.

Armstrong’s second and last spaceflight was as mission commander of the Apollo 11 moon landing in July 1969. On this mission, Armstrong andBuzz Aldrin descended to the lunar surface and spent 2½ hours exploring, while Michael Collins remained in orbit in the Command Module. Armstrong was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Richard Nixon along with Collins and Aldrin, the Congressional Space Medal of Honorby President Jimmy Carter in 1978, and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2009.

On August 25, 2012, Armstrong died in Cincinnati, Ohio,[1] at the age of 82 due to complications from blocked coronary arteries.

Organization of Bhutanese Communities in America(OBCA)Holds 3rd National Convention

June 15-17, 2012, Phoenix, AZ

Organization of Bhutanese Communities in America(OBCA) , organised three days long convention in Phoenix, AZ  from June 15 to 17, 2012 in which around 250 Bhutanese gathered from 26 States
of the US. The convention was chaired by Dasho Thinley Penjore from Missouri. The Program Coordinator Mr. Manorath Khanal welcomed the invitees. After the short speech by the Chairman of the organization Mr. DJ Khaling, the organizational report was presented by the Secretary Mr. Hari Upreti.
State representatives updated the States ongoing program funded by State/Federal/ORR. Meanwhile,Sher Mizar, the Coordinator of Global Bhutanese Community of Colorado(GBCC)
represented Colorado State and updated the projected program of BGCC,like Apartment-based ESL, Citizenship Class, Soccer Tournament. Group session of various departments like Music, Media, Literature, Sports,
Community Development and so on.

In the program, TB Chhetri was awarded an Honorary Certificate and $500 for his
devoted effort on Punya Foundation. The main attraction of the program were different film documentary by different personalities.

Global Bhutanese Community of Colorado(GBCC) Organizes Inter-action Programme

The inter-action program was held at  University of Denver, named  “Night of Bhutanese Culture.” It was organized By the Global Bhutanese Community of Colorado(GBCC)in close coordinatio with the Denver Universitty.The program was headed by the chairman of the community Mr. Hari Uprety. Meanwhile, the program was fascinated by the typical Nepali cultural shows.The intelectual,community seniors of Bhutanese community and the local community attended the program.Everyone,stressed in supporting the Bhutanese to become self sufficient.The documentary presented by Mr. Narayan Neopaney  , the IT coordinator made the spectator spellbound.

Re-registration Process of Refugees to Commence

The re-registration of Bhutanese Refugees is going to commence soon.The Refugee Cordinating Unit (RCU) Statistician Mr. Nirmal Khanal told braintimes that all the problems related to issuing of identity cards, reregistration of de-registered refugees will be completely solved.”But, the prople who are neither registered in camp nor in kakarvitta can’t claim as refugees” he added.
